Slime molds

The body of the S.M. is a plasmodium (a slimy mass without solid coverings), one large cell with many nuclei (from several millimetres to 25 cm and more); brightly coloured; reproduce by simple division or form fertile bodies with spores like mushrooms; can slowly move towards food and moisture — sometimes over considerable distances; encountered in damp places; some of them may develop in book depositories if there is excessive moisture.
Location: varied; changed during the project.
