Autopoiesis Systems

The concept of A.S. was originated by the Chilean neurobiologists Humberto Maturana and Francisco Varela who tried to formulate the criteria of life in relation to the structure and self-reproduction of living beings and the systems they form. Living beings are distinguished by their ability to “construct” themselves under the influence of the environment. As a result, they give birth to systems which cannot be divided into “producers” and “products”. The term “autopoiesis” means self-creation (from the Greek “poiesis” — creation, production).
